Canadian Consulate in Miami
You will note that the Consulate covers the States of Florida as well as the territories of Puerto Rico as well as the U.S. Virgin Islands. If you need access then this might be a bit difficult as The Consulate is in Miami. If you lose you passport while in the US virgin Islands or in Puerto Rico it might become a bit difficult to get consular assistance. You will need to email the Consulate and take advice from there.
Consular assistance is limited to legalising documents as well as assistance in the event of a disaster or accident. The Consulate only acts a an intermediary and does not get involved in issues directly. If you need a letter to show that you are single as you are going to get married. Then the Consulate will be able to assist you in that regard. If you lost your passport then they will also be able to assist you with an emergency travel document.
You will need to report your passport as lost or stolen. The police case number will be needed for the emergency travel document. If you have given birth then they should also assist you with registering a Canadian born abroad. The child will also need to have a travel document when returning to Canada.
